Anganwadi Workers’ Union Submits Memorandum, Warns of Protest if Demands Remain Unmet

Lucknow/Bijnor: The Anganwadi Workers’ Union of Uttar Pradesh has submitted a memorandum to authorities highlighting long-pending demands of Anganwadi workers, warning of a statewide agitation if their issues are not resolved soon.

As part of a pre-announced programme, union representatives met Harshita Mathur, Director of Child Development and Nutrition, on May 4 in Bijnor. The delegation presented a detailed charter of demands and urged the department to take concrete steps in the interest of workers. The director assured them that their concerns would be considered sympathetically.

Key Demands Raised

The union emphasised several critical issues affecting Anganwadi workers, including:

  • Regularisation of services
  • Increase in honorarium
  • Timely payment of dues
  • Job security and service benefits

Union president Radha Rani Pandey stated that Anganwadi workers have been serving for years on minimal honorarium, yet their problems remain unresolved. “It is essential to ensure better working conditions and recognition for their contribution,” she said.

Call for Promotions and Career Growth

The delegation also met Deputy Director Anupama Sandal to seek clarity on promotion policies. Union members stressed that workers who have served for years should be given departmental promotions to boost morale and efficiency.

Senior members, including Rajeshwari Rathi, Babita Chaudhary, Nisha, and Amresh Singh, were part of the delegation that raised these concerns.

Warning of Statewide Protest

The union made it clear that failure to address their demands could lead to a large-scale protest across the state. Leaders said the organisation would be compelled to intensify its agitation if timely action is not taken.

Hope for Resolution

Despite the warning, union representatives expressed hope that the department would take a positive decision soon and provide much-needed relief to Anganwadi workers across Uttar Pradesh.

The development highlights growing concerns among frontline childcare workers, who play a crucial role in implementing nutrition and early childhood programmes at the grassroots level.
